The
theme of the Challenge Quilt Wall Hanging for 2010 is:
This year an art teacher challenged students to design some
quilt blocks. Look at the results!
Students at several local schools were
involved last year in a project for the Upper Cumberland
Quilt Trail. This year the Quilt Festival is going to build
on that interest by offering categories for middle and high
school students. Cash awards will be given to winning
entries in the Youth categories. Read full details

This year's Festival will be
better then ever. It starts a day early - on Thursday, Sept.
16th - with a tour of the Upper
Cumberland Quilt Trail followed by the preview dinner.
Quilts will not be ready for general viewing until Friday.
The oldest Black church in Putnam County
will be the location for a display
of Underground Railroad quilt blocks and stories about
the Underground Railroad told by a well-known
story-teller, Joanne Miller. Also, the American Legion Auxiliary Post 46
will be presenting a traveling exhibit of patriotic quilts
and an exhibit of selected personal historical
memorabilia from WWI and WWII.. This collection has never been seen before.
Ride the shuttle to see all
the exhibits that are located in different locations in

..."Celebrating the completion of a three-month-long hand
quilting project at the Algood Senior Center are (L-R)
Mildred Judd, Fannie Mae Harris, Ruth Barnes, Marie Wilmoth
and Lee Nora Henry. A drawing for this king-size "Simple
Star" quilt will be held during the Upper Cumberland Quilt
Festival.
Anyone can buy a piece of candy for $1 and have an
opportunity to win the quilt by placing your name in the
drawing jar, or 6 pieces of candy for $5 which gives you 6
opportunities to win the handmade quilt. Candy/tickets are
now available at the Algood Community Center. Additionally,
on July 15 the quilt will be displayed and candy/tickets
will be available at the Jackson Bank & Trust in Algood (one
of the Festival Sponsors), or from any Board Member.
This is a king-size quilt beautifully hand stitched by some
of Putnam County's most talented quilters. Before July 15th
you can see the quilt at the Algood Community Center Monday
– Thursday each week 9a to 5p. After that time it will be on
display at Jackson Bank & Trust in Algood.

view the new quilt squares on the expanded Quilt Trail in
Putnam, White, and Jackson Counties. This all
